Brian P. Betensky, MD, FACC, FHRS

Dr. Betensky obtained his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine, fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease and advanced subspecialty training in Cardiac Electrophysiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He is ABIM Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Dr. Betensky provides comprehensive care for patients with a broad range of heart rhythm disorders. He has expertise in complex catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation, atypical atrial arrhythmias, premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) and ventricular tachycardia (VT). His work emphasizes the use of cutting edge imaging techniques, including intracardiac ultrasound, which improves patient safety and reduces radiation exposure. He also specializes in pacemaker and defibrillator implantation, lead management, syncope, sudden cardiac arrest and stroke prevention. He was recipient of the Heart Rhythm Society Clinical Research Award in Honor of Hein Wellens and Mark Josephson and has published numerous original research manuscripts in leading peer-reviewed cardiology journals. In his spare time, he enjoys international medical volunteer work, jazz piano, physical fitness training and back-country camping.

Garrett H. Brown, MD

Dr. Garrett Brown obtained his medical degree from Florida State University College of Medicine and continued his internal medicine training at the University of Florida, Gainesville from 2013-2016 and his cardiovascular disease training at University of Florida from 2016-2019. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. Dr. Brown has been a member of the American College of Cardiology since 2016. Most recently, Dr. Brown was practicing at Tampa General Hospital, where he completed his fellowship in Interventional Cardiology. Upon completion, he will be board eligible for Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Brown enjoys traveling the world. He has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, seen the Serengeti’s great migration in Tanzania, swam with Great White sharks in South Africa, trekked alongside Orangutans in Borneo, and hiked with the Komodo dragons of Indonesia. He loves photography and has a hobby of drone/travel videography. Dr. Brown enjoys working out and resides in Sarasota with his wife and son.

Steven J. Class, MD, FACC

Dr. Class has been practicing cardiology in Bradenton and Sarasota since 2000. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Molecular Biology at the Vanderbilt University prior to obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Florida in 1993. He completed Residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University Hospitals, Atlanta, Georgia in 1996. He completed a three year Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease followed by a 1 year Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology and Peripheral Vascular Disease at the Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois in 2000. Dr. Class practices general consultative cardiology with emphasis in the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, and congestive heart failure. Robert Eckart, DO, FACC, FHRS

Dr. Robert Eckart graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in physiology before attending medical school in Philadelphia. He then embarked on career in the United States Army, with training in Honolulu and San Antonio. From 2004 to 2006, he trained in cardiac electrophysiology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and returned to Texas as an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Service, San Antonio Military Medical Center. He has been board certified by the ABIM in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and serves as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Eckart’s clinical interests include complex ablation and device management including extraction and venoplasty. He has published over 50 articles in the peer-reviewed literature and has co-authored 5 textbook chapters on resource utilization in the evaluation of syncope and atrial fibrillation, and epidemiology of cardiovascular and arrhythmic disease. Although Dr. Eckart served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army with overseas duty in Germany, Iraq and Afghanistan, he has been coming to Sarasota for nearly 40 years, spending time with grandparents in Venice as a child, and more recently, his in-laws in Tampa.

Walter R. Hepp, MD,FACC

Dr. Hepp is originally from Philadelphia Pennsylvania and relocated to Sarasota Florida with his wife and 3 children back in 1990. He built Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s first Electrophysiology Lab and was director of the Electrophysiology Lab for many years. Dr. Hepp was involved in many research projects including antiarrhythmic drug therapy studies as well as Pacemaker and ICD studies. He brought many new ICD technologies to Sarasota and worked with all the major Pacemaker and ICD companies over the years. Dr Hepp graduated from Tufts Medical School in Boston. He did his internship and residency at the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He completed his Cardiology and Electrophysiology Fellowship at Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. He is board-certified in Adult Cardiovascular disease as well as Electrophysiology. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his children, working out, traveling, as well as cooking.

Michael Mollod, MD, FACC

Dr. Michael Mollod has been practicing cardiology in Sarasota since 1997. After obtaining dual Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry and biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then medical school at Tufts University in Boston, he completed his cardiology fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta. Dr. Mollod practices general invasive, non-interventional cardiology with special emphasis on consultative cardiology including expertise in cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology. He has been selected by Sarasota Magazine as one of the areas Top Doctors for many years. Dr. Mollod resides in Sarasota with his wife and two children and is well known locally for his exploits as a competitive long distance runner, being amongst the top ranked master’s marathon runners in Florida.

Chippy Ajithan, MD, FACC

Dr. Ajithan completed her cardiology fellowship at Case Western Reserve University and relocated to the Sarasota area in June 2001. She is specfically trained in all aspects of non-invasive cardiology including three-dimensional echocardiography and CTA imaging. David S. Schreibman, MD, FACC

Dr. Schreibman relocated to Sarasota, Florida from New Haven, Connecticut, with his wife and two children in 2004. He obtained his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and trained at Yale University/Yale-New Haven Hospital where he completed his residency in internal medicine. Remaining at Yale, he completed his training in non-invasive cardiology, followed by specialized training in interventional cardiology. He is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases, Adult Echocardiography, and Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Schreibman specializes in all aspects of cardiology with a particular interest in complex coronary interventions and structural heart disease. Dr. Yamada graduated from Northwestern University Medical School. After internship and residency at Emory University, he completed his cardiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Moving to Sarasota where he joined Heart Specialists in 2001, he has served as Chairman of the Cardiovascular Quality Review Committee, Chairman of the Cardiology Privileging Committee, and Cardiology Department Chief, all at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Dr. Yamada is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Nuclear Cardiology, and specializes in invasive diagnostic coronary angiography as well as all aspects of non-invasive cardiology. In addition, Dr. Yamada became one of the first physicians worldwide to become Board Certified in Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (Cardiovascular CT) in 2008. Keith obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Sports Medicine in 1994 from Central Michigan University and is a board Certified Athletic Trainer. He received a Master’s degree in 1997 in Exercise Physiology. Upon graduation, he moved to New England and began teaching in the Health Science Department and rehabilitating collegiate athletes in various sports at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire. He received his Masters from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Physician Assistant (PA) studies in 2002. Since graduating PA school, Keith returned to his home state of Michigan where he began working in cardiology. He then relocated to Florida in 2006. From 2006-2014 he was working in Port Charlotte, FL specializing in cardiac electrophysiology. Keith is a founding board member of South African Medical Expeditions and has traveled on various foreign missions since 2003. He has traveled to rural South Africa a dozen times and has also served in Nicaragua and post-Earthquake Haiti in 2010. He has shared his mission experiences with his wife Elizabeth and they are enjoying parenting their young daughters. Leisure time is spent in various forms of physical activity and studying leadership development.

Grant Luce is a native of Sarasota, who graduated from University of Florida in 2002 with a Bachelor of Health Science degree. Matthew Johnson is originally from Wisconsin obtaining his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology at University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in 1998. Before becoming a Physician Assistant, he spent 5 years in clinical research at the University of Texas – Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, during which time he co-authored many peer reviewed journal articles. He has obtained a Master’s Degree in clinical medical sciences in 2006 at Barry University in Miami, Florida. He obtained his Physician Assistant certification in 2007 and has since practiced in cardiology initially in Port Charlotte, FL before moving to Sarasota, FL in 2013.
